There are a lot of misconceptions about actually booking on a listing site. You could save up to £200 by booking direct depending on season and availability.

1. Owners and managers are charged up to 25% for the priviledge of being seen on these sites. The reason they have to be there is to be seen, as these sites spend hundreds of millions dominating Google. 

2. Most owners and managers have their own websites and love to talk to guests and can offer much more information and local advice.

3. The economy demands local and UK wide improvements. Paying too much for your holiday and paying a major corporation simply does not make sense. These high fees that both you pay and the owner pays are unnecessary.

With some little effort you will find most properties direct from manager and/or owner. The web address above advsies on bets methods.

4. Paying securely. Simply pay with a credit card. The Consumer Protection Act covers you for any problems if use you this method.

So two simple rules:

1. If the site has a phone number and lets you enquire directly then you will get the best price and service and can sort any problems without a third party. Phoning India to get a fresh set of laundry is not ideal!

2. If the site asks for money, make sure its paid to the owner or manager and there are direct contact details (also helps to avoid fraud) and you are not being charged any extra.
