TASTE OF THE TEIGN

ODE IN SHALDON, DEVON, HAS BEEN NAMED THE
UK'S MOST SUSTAINABLE RESTAURANT
BY THE SUSTAINABLE RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION (SRA).

Number One the Strand is situated on what was once Strangs Quay. Formerly a Bakery its probably better remembered as The Beachcomber Cafe.

The Beachcomber was well known in Shaldon for over 20 years, serving a variety of foods including all day breakfasts, baguettes and the usual range of cafe style foods.

New owners have renovated the property and converted it into an upmarket Cafe/Restaurant. With contemporary decor, subtle lighting and a few unusual 'items of interest' Number One the Strand has achieved a level of intimacy while making the best use of the available space. Placing of mirrors uses natural light to its best advantage.

The Restaurant has a garden with direct access to Shaldon Beach and views across the Teign Estuary and out to Sea. With its outstanding views window tables, and in the garden, beachside tables are always popular.

Evening dining has established Number One the Strand as a Tapas bar and with a fully stocked bar it has also become a place to meet and socialise over a glass of wine or premium lager.

With its proximity to the sea and with local fishermen able to supply fresh seafood on a daily basis a seafood based menu was a logical choice. As a result Number One the Strand is able to cater for all requirements from a full breakfast and lunch through to afternoon teas and coffees culminating in a Tapas and Seafood menu in the evenings.

Number One the Strand believes in supporting the local community as much as possible and includes the village bakery and butchers as suppliers as well as local seafood suppliers.
