Walking along the embankment upstream from the bridge is the King George V recreation ground, which long ago was the site of a large shipyard.
There is a fabulous children’s playground, safely surrounded by fences, with picnic tables, swings and roundabouts, and grassy areas to play in, all with a stone’s throw of the river, and views upstream of the river looking towards the Moors and the magnificent Haytor.
The playing field provides a big open area for ball games and picnics- and is used weekly in the Autumn and winter for Football matches.
