Where Devon meets the water
Facing the seaside town of Teignmouth across the estuary, Shaldon has long been shaped by its surroundings. It’s a place of sailing boats and seaside walks, riverbanks and regattas. The village is proud of its fishing roots, and you can still see working boats bobbing in the harbour, often sharing the water with paddleboarders and curious kayakers.
At low tide, the beach stretches out to reveal hidden coves and quiet spots perfect for picnics. And when the tide’s high? There’s always the ferry — one of the oldest passenger crossings in England — gently shuttling people across the water as it has for centuries.
