The Coffee Rush is certainly a box to tick on your trip to Shaldon.
Owned and managed by Dominic de Suys, who has a Master’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. He has worked in Michelin starred hotels and he is ably supported by a team of outstanding chefs and baristas.
The cafe has been a finalist in Devon Life’s Coffee and Tea Room of the Year and if a cream tea is your choice, then they achieved being in the top twenty crème de la crème in the 2016 publication ‘Devon Cream Teaser.’ A real achievement, when the author had surveyed over 400 cafes in Devon. The cafe’s fame is spreading as it also merited a mention recently in The Heidelburg News.
With a quaint cornflower blue exterior, the cafe is prettily situated in this quaint village and the shabby chic interior doesn’t disappoint. With pendant lighting, white panelling and painted metal furniture you can indulge in its art deco setting as you watch the world go by. The cosy back room is complete with sofas and magazines providing a relaxed corner for an intimate catch-up.
Dog owners need not worry as this part of the cafe is canine friendly. The back room is somewhere you can enjoy a coffee while browsing a copy of The Times, a newspaper that hailed the Coffee Rush as one of the thirty best places for tea in England and for young families there is also a basket of toys and some books to keep the little ones entertained while their siblings try a baby chino.
In terms of food and drink, the choice is plentiful. Everything on offer is locally sourced and organic where possible.
On Friday and Saturday evenings the cafe is transformed into a cosy, candlelit wine bar offering a selection of authentic Tapas and unique quality wines and champagne.
Sunday mornings, there is a special menu of Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale and Eggs Florentine. The cafe also sells Sunday newspapers so you can browse a copy of the latest news over a leisurely brunch.
With a hygiene rating of 5 and a Certificate of Excellence on Trip Advisor, the cafe has attracted a loyal following from visitors and locals alike.
